About CuttingSewing

CuttingSewing exists for one simple reason: most online sewing content is either too vague to actually follow, or assumes you already know what you're doing. We sit in the middle — practical, specific, and written for people who want to actually finish what they start.

Our mission is to publish clear, well-tested guides on the topics that matter most to home sewers: foundational technique, pattern reading and adjustment, machine know-how, fabric education, and project tutorials that build real skills. Nothing about us assumes you sew for a living — but everything assumes you care about doing it right.

Our mission

To make sewing genuinely accessible for home sewers, with content that is useful on the bench, not just pretty on a feed. We're not selling courses, we don't take affiliate kickbacks from every notion brand on the internet, and we don't dress up product launches as articles.

When we recommend a tool, it's because it's worth the money. When we flag a technique as "skip this" or "harder than it looks," that's because we've tried it.

Editorial standards

Every article on CuttingSewing goes through a standard editorial process:

  1. Research from primary sources — pattern publishers, machine manuals, fabric mill specs, garment construction references. When we cite a measurement, technique, or specification, we link the source.
  2. Tested writing — wherever a project tutorial or technique is described, someone on the team has actually sewn it. We don't publish step-by-steps from imagination.
  3. Plain English — we explain technical terms the first time they appear, use real measurements, and avoid the kind of jargon that turns a beginner away.
  4. Pre-publication review — every article is read by a second set of eyes before going live, with checks on technique, safety, and references.
  5. Periodic updates — pattern grading, machine specifications, and product availability change. We revisit articles regularly and timestamp the last update on every post.
  6. Transparent corrections — when we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and, where the change matters, leave a visible correction note on the article.

What CuttingSewing does not do

  • We don't sell courses, classes, mentorships, or our own physical products.
  • We don't run sponsored articles disguised as editorial.
  • We don't promise that anyone will learn to sew "in seven days" or any other arbitrary timeline. Sewing takes practice, and we say so.
  • We don't recommend tools, brands, or patterns that we haven't actually used or researched in depth.
  • We don't accept brand-paid edits to our reviews or technique articles.

How the site is funded

CuttingSewing is supported by programmatic advertising (Google AdSense and partners). Ads are served automatically by those platforms based on multiple factors and are not selected by our editorial team. The presence of an ad does not represent an endorsement, and ads do not influence our coverage of any topic. We don't run sponsored posts disguised as articles. When something is sponsored, it's clearly labeled.
